A cast of them is the actual shape, down to the knuckles and the lines in the palm. You stir the alginate molding powder into cool water in the bucket it ships in, hold the pose while it sets, then pour in the casting stone and peel the mold away once it has set hard. Everything needed is in the bucket, including a table cover and the tools for cleaning up the finished piece.

Casts the Real Hand: Alginate picks up knuckles, nails and the creases in the palm.

Everything in the Bucket: Molding powder, casting stone, cover, sticks, sandpaper, knife.

Mixes With Cool Water: No heat, no studio gear and no experience needed to start.

Couples or Family: Two clasped hands or a parent and child fit the same mold.

Finish It Yourself: Detailing sticks and sandpaper smooth the cast once it is hard.

Note: An adult runs this from start to finish. Do not cast anyone who cannot follow instructions or hold still for the full setting time, which rules out young children and anyone who cannot tell you to stop. Never cast a head, a face, or anything that could cover the nose or mouth. Remove rings, watches and bracelets before the hand goes in, because the mold has to be broken off afterwards. Do not pour leftover mix down a sink or drain. If powder gets in an eye, flush with water for fifteen minutes, and if any is swallowed, call a doctor.
